Location: Hommachi, Osaka.
The last noteworthy scale model shop I visited in Osaka is Hobby Land located in Hommachi District. Take the Midosuji Subway Line to Hommachi Station, get out at Exit 17, turn right and walk two blocks, then turn right again. The store is as shown on the map below. Very easy to find. Just look for the building with the white elephant.
The two storekeepers I met there are very nice gentlemen, but too bad they don’t speak English and my Japanese is just as bad. They serve everyone there with a smile and politeness that is symbolic of Japan.
Hands down, this is the shop a scale modeller must visit for aftermarket accessories. This shop is tailored to the ship, AFV, and aircraft modellers. The store has pretty good selection of kits, limited quantities of books and paint, but it makes up for it with very large selections of resins and photoedge aftermarket stuff. They carry: Eduard Brassin, GasPatch models, Master, Wolfpack, Aires, Quickboost, RetroWings, PJ Production, MYK Decals, CAM, FM Details. Vector, Finemolds, Black Boz, CMK, Live Resin, Tahk, Alpine, Hornet, and many more. Their stock of Aires and Eduard resins are extensive! Even I found the elusive parts I was searching for here.
There are two display cases in the premise and the models on display are wonderful works of art. Most notable are the ship and armour models, built by local Japanese modellers, which captured my undivided attention. The quality of the ship models are the best I’ve seen yet. I dare say many of these models, especially the ships, might easily come in First Place at the model shows I’ve attended.
Take a look at my photos below for a tour.
I shall return one day.
